What is Google My Business?


Google My Business is a free tool provided by Google to help businesses make their online presence and find local customers looking for your business, products and services online. And help customers find your business/store location on Google map.


Who can create Google My Business? 

According to the Google Local Guidelines - Businesses with a physical location that customers can visit like a local store can create GMB. 

Businesses that contact customers or provide services in person can make a business profile like a plumber.

What information do you need to create your Google Business Listing?


The general information you need to create a Business Listing

  1. Business Name
  2. Business Categories
  3. Business Address Location
  4. Service Area
  5. Working Days
  6. Website URL
  7. Phone number
  8. Description
  9. Attributes
  10. Media 

 

Business Name 


Use your trade name / registered business name for your Google My Business name. 


You can also use your service and profession,

Example - Mike Plumbing services or Alex Cleaning Services. 


Business Categories

In Google My Business, you can select Five different Business Categories with one primary category and four Additional categories.


Primary Category - The primary category is what your business is all about.

Google recommend being specific when you select your Primary Category.

For example, choose Nail salon instead of Salon if you have a Nail Salon.



Additional categories - For additional categories, you can select the closely related business category for your listing.

For example, choose “Advertising agency” for “Marketing consultant” and "Nail salon" for "Salon"



Also if you don't have your business category on the list you can choose another relevant category for you.

Business Address Location - You need a business location to approve

your Google My Business. Also, It helps your customers find your business using Google Maps or Google Search.


You can also leave your business location empty in Google My Business if you don't have a store (like if you are a plumber).


If you are a service provider business Google give you a chance to list yourself without an address you have to select the "I deliver goods and services to my customers" option when creating your listing.



Why do you need a Location in GMB?


  1. Location is a major ranking factor for Google Local
  2. Many customers search with near me on Google it will help you if your location is the closers  


  • You still need a location to verify your business.


Service Area - Your area of business if you are a local store and provide delivery services you can add your Service Area to your Google Business Listing.


Working Days - You can show your business working days and working hours on Google. You just need to set your Working days and business hours in the GMB listing.


 You can update the working day and time according to you. An easy way to update your local customers about your business. 




Website URL - When your local client finds you make sure they also find your website and redirect them to the destination web page. If you don't have a website can also use your third party social media URL.


Google also provides you with a free website with GMB.


With 3 steps you can create a Google website


  • Go to the website section in the Gmb menu

  • Click Get Started

  • Publish 


Your Google website will be live within a few seconds.

 

Phone Number - If you provide services that required call confirmation you need a phone number to add to your GMB profile, it gives you a boost in leads because local clients can call your business directly from GMB.


Description - Add a piece of short information about your company/ business, such as what it does and what makes it unique. It will help Google know about your business and rank you in local search.

For example -  You can add you are the only vegan milk supplier in the city, Google will help you rank up in vegan milk supplier at your location.


Attributes - A business attribute is all about your brand/company and even the owner. They can be best described as certain underlying characteristics that best represent your businesses.


For Example - Identified as women-led or LGBTQ + friendly.



Business Media - We all love photos and images add more images, videos about your businesses to help people find out about you.


Every
edit in GMB may be reviewed by the Google team. And it can take up to 3 days before your edit is visible on Search, Maps, and other Google services.
